The Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia, serves as a serene tribute to Buddha Maitreya. It features some of the largest statues of various Buddha forms, with a focus on Buddha Maitreya. The temple is divided into five sections, including prayer halls and rooms adorned with art and sculptures.
The temple’s grandeur and serene beauty attract both locals and tourists. It offers numerous spaces for prayer and meditation, making it one of the island’s most tranquil spots. In addition to the central Buddha statue, the temple houses 12 smaller statues representing the Chinese zodiac animals. Visitors can also find a vegetarian restaurant, a souvenir shop, and a clinic on the premises. Photography is allowed, though the temple tends to be busy on weekends and holidays.
